Method

  1. 1Pressure-cook 150 g toor dal with turmeric until soft, then whisk smooth.
  2. 2Heat oil and crackle mustard and cumin seeds.
  3. 3Add curry leaves, green chilli and asafoetida.
  4. 4Stir in goda masala and chilli powder off the heat so they do not burn.
  5. 5Pour in the dal with tamarind pulp, jaggery, salt and water.
  6. 6Simmer 8 to 10 minutes until it turns thin and aromatic.
  7. 7Finish with fresh coriander and serve hot with rice.
