Method

  1. 1Rub the fish pieces with turmeric and salt.
  2. 2Soak tamarind in warm water and extract a thick pulp.
  3. 3Heat oil and splutter mustard, fenugreek and cumin seeds.
  4. 4Add curry leaves, sliced onion and slit green chilli.
  5. 5Saute till the onion softens and turns golden.
  6. 6Add ginger-garlic paste and fry till fragrant.
  7. 7Stir in red chilli powder, coriander powder and turmeric.
  8. 8Pour in the tamarind extract and enough water for a gravy.
  9. 9Bring to a boil and season with salt and jaggery.
  10. 10Slide in the fish and simmer 12 minutes without stirring much.
  11. 11Cook till the gravy thickens and coats the fish.
  12. 12Rest and serve hot with steamed rice.
