Method

  1. 1Rub the fish steaks with turmeric and salt.
  2. 2Shallow-fry the fish lightly in mustard oil, then set aside.
  3. 3Whisk the yogurt smooth with a little water and turmeric.
  4. 4In the same oil temper bay leaf, cardamom and cinnamon.
  5. 5Add onion paste and fry till golden.
  6. 6Stir in ginger paste and cumin powder on low heat.
  7. 7Lower the flame and slowly add the whisked yogurt, stirring constantly.
  8. 8Add red chilli powder, sugar and salt.
  9. 9Simmer the gravy 5 minutes till it thickens slightly.
  10. 10Slide in the fried fish and simmer another 5 minutes.
  11. 11Sprinkle garam masala and cover for 2 minutes.
  12. 12Serve hot with plain rice.
