Method

  1. 1Soak 100 g whole urad dal and 50 g chana dal for an hour, then drain.
  2. 2Pressure-cook the dals with turmeric, ginger-garlic paste and salt until very soft.
  3. 3Mash lightly and simmer until thick and creamy, loosening with water as needed.
  4. 4Heat ghee and crackle cumin, then add chopped onion and cook till golden.
  5. 5Add chopped tomato, chilli powder and coriander powder and cook to a soft masala.
  6. 6Stir the masala into the dal and simmer 5 minutes.
  7. 7Finish with garam masala and coriander, and serve hot.
