  1. 1Peel and cube the yam; parboil with turmeric and salt, then drain.
  2. 2Dry-roast and coarsely crush the peanuts; soak tamarind and extract pulp.
  3. 3Heat oil and splutter mustard seeds and cumin; add asafoetida.
  4. 4Add the yam, chilli powder and goda masala, and toss.
  5. 5Cook 8-10 minutes until browned at the edges.
  6. 6Stir in crushed peanuts, tamarind pulp and jaggery; cook 3 minutes.
  7. 7Serve hot with bhakri or rice.
